The Poppins Curriculum
Introduction
At Poppins we are passionate about providing our families with outstanding care and education, where our children are loved and valued. We would like to share with you our curriculum, as this is what we feel makes Poppins an incredible place for children to grow and flourish. Our curriculum has been carefully designed, we take elements of play theorists, development guidance and educational pedagogies to build our own curriculum. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance and the Birth to 5 matters document to support us to ensure we are meeting our statutory obligations, and to ensure we are creating an ambitious and challenging curriculum. We take elements of Reggio Emilia as well as Montessori. The Reggio Emilia approach is a child-centred philosophy of early childhood education and it emphasizes the importance of children’s curiosity and views children as strong, capable learners who are full of potential. This approach also values the environment as the ‘third teacher’, which we value greatly with our continuous provision. The Reggio Emilia approach places great importance on the teacher being a facilitator in children’s learning, which is what we believe is at the foundation of our curriculum enrichments. The heart of our curriculum is always our families, the child’s development starting points, and their interests.
Our curriculum has 5 main elements;
Our Ethos
Our Mission Statement (what we currently do)
Our Vision Statement (what we aim for)
Our continuous provision which emphasises the importance of the learning environment
Our five curriculum enrichments
Our Ethos
At Poppins we value our children as strong, capable and resilient learners; full of wonder and curiosity. We support children’s natural urge to explore and encourage children to challenge emerging ideas and concepts. As practitioners we sensitively nurture this love to learn; extending and supporting children’s knowledge through child-led, play based experiences.
Our Mission
We provide our families with a safe, loving and nurturing environment by offering outstanding care with a passion for child-led learning in a home from home environment.
Our Vision
Our aim is for every child to leave Poppins with a curious mind, a love for learning with confidence to explore and a rich vocabulary. We want every child to have been nurtured in their learning and development by offering a safe, language enriched environment.
We are passionate about offering an ambitious curriculum that has communication and language at the very heart, one that follows children’s interests and builds on what they know. We aim to offer a range of enriched learning opportunities with our five curriculum enrichments that shows our intent, our implementation and our impact.
Our aim is for parents to feel they are at the centre of their child’s learning journey and leave us feeling supported and confident their child will flourish as they begin their next chapter.
